Jude and I have decided to sell the cottage in Canada and move our "stuff" up to Alaska. We will keep the boat and the big new 5th wheel in Grand Isle. We will take Jude's red car and a different truck and camper to Alaska.
We made these decisions last winter, but we wanted to tell Jude's mom in person, not have her read it here on the blog. The logistics will be interesting, to say the least. We will be moving Danny's Fault down through Chicago, the Illinois, Mississippi, Tennessee, Tom Bigby river system and ending up in Mobile Bay. From there we will hang a right and head to New Orleans and Grand Isle. We will leave Canada on the boat in mid to late August. We are still working on details for the new 5th wheel and all of our Alaska stuff.
We are currently at the Cottage in Canada and it is colder than the devil. We have had a fire every day since we got here 3 1/2 weeks ago. I have the sauna fired up now and will be heading down there after this posting.
We have been working our butts off getting ready to sell this place. The first was to get rid of lots of "stuff". We had a yard sale that was very successful. We moved a bunch of things out of here and made a pretty good chunk of change in the process. While that was going on, I also put down 250 sq ft of laminate flooring. We showed the house last night to some folks who have 2 other friends who have places along our street. Maybe they will come up with an offer before the real estate agent's commission kicks in.
I have to go feed wood into the Sauna and try to warm up. Bye to all for the time being.

- In 2005, Jude and I retired after teaching for 33 years in Corunna, Michigan. Upon retirement our plan was to summer at our cottage in northern Ontario and winter in our RV south. In March of 2006 I got stupid and decided to apply for a teaching job in Alaska. Be careful of what you wish for. I taught math and science at an alternative high school in Sitka, Alaska, for a year. I then remembered why I retired the first time. From now on any job I take will last 30 days or less! We have since sold the cottage in Bruce Mines, ON, Canada, moved the boat and RV to Grand Isle, LA, and bought a new stick house in Wasilla, AK. Life is good.
